Following in the footsteps of “Rogue One – A Star Wars Story”, this week a critic proof box office favourite car caper franchise veers into spin-off territory, as Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw.
Dwayne Johnson stays as Luke Hobbs, a US Federal Agent, who is at odds with Jason Statham’s former British soldier turned mercenary Deckard Shaw.
Shaw’s sister Hattie, played by The Crown’s Princess Margaret, Vanessa Kirby, is carrying a supervirus that terrorist mastermind Brixton Lore, played by Idris Elba, will do anything to get his hands on.
Directed by stuntman David Leitch who crafted the impressive Charlize Theron action film Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2, Hobbs and Shaw is a non stop thrill ride of action and laughs.
The film features crazy set pieces like a motorbike chase through London & a Showdown in Samoa (filmed in Hawaii) with custom made trucks that are on par with Mission Impossible, Bond, Bourne, and even the MCU. With 80s classics like Stallone’s cobra and Eddie Murphy/Nick Notre cop action/comedy 48 Hours and it is one hell of a fun ride that delivers serious bang for your buck.
