Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle – Film Review

Nobody really expected a lot of 2017’s Jumanji reboot Welcome to The Jungle.

But the update to the beloved Robin Williams film, with The Rock, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan as video game avatars zipping around Hawaii was a global smash, grossing close to a Billion dollars, taking $50 million dollars in Australia, to be the second biggest film that year just behind Star Wars Episode VIII.

In the new film Jumanji: The Next Level, the cast are back and are joined by Danny DeVito as Eddie and Danny Glover as Milo, two old mates with an axe to grind, who get sucked into the game along with the four kids from the last film, and as you may have guessed, the game has changed.

The Next Level delivers on every level. At a packed screening the day after Boxing Day, little kids laughed at the slapstick comedy, the rest of us laughed at the slapstick comedy, and the jokes, the visuals are incredible, the story is wonderful, as the teenagers from the first film band together to try and rescue their pal Spencer who has gone back into the game. It is full of heart and adventure plus I loved the added bonus of Awkwafina. There’s a sequence on a huge set of rope bridges as the gang are attacked by monkeys that’s one of the best pieces of special and practical effects you could see in a film.

Definitely a solid choice for the whole family this Summer. 4 STARS “Delivers on Every Level”
