Keanu Reeves is back this week in the third instalment of his bloody and brutal hitman series John Wick. Chapter 3, Parabellum, derived from the latin meaning If you want peace, prepare for war.
In the first film he plays a hitman who comes out of retirement and takes on the Russian Mafia after they steal his car and kill his dog, both gifts from his recently departed wife.
In the second film set just days after the events of the first film, John Wick becomes entangled with the Italian Mob to whom he owes a significant debt, and attempts to survive a $7 million bounty on his head.
Now, in Chapter 3, it is literally one hour since the end of chapter 2, and the price on his head has doubled, and the number of allies he can rely on is down to zero.
Well, there is one person, Halle Berry as the assassin Sofia, who Wick visits in Casablanca in a last ditch attempt to clear his name.
Just like the first two films, Parabellum is full of grisly physical confrontations, truly breathtaking stunt choreography and endless scenes of armed and hand to hand combat. It’s sure to delight fans of the franchise, for me it’s hard to beat the first one.
3 & 1/2 Stars – Killer.
