So from a film set in a circus by the director of Edward Scissorhands to a movie featuring lots of scissors that takes place in part at an amusement park.
Jordan Peele took home an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for his 2017 thriller Get Out. His follow up is called US, and it sees an average American family stalked by overall wearing, scissor wielding doppelgangers as they have holiday at a Californian beach. There is SO MUCH going on in terms of subtext in this film, about the darkness that lies within us all and where the world is at the moment that everyone is likely to take away a different message from this film.
I HATE horror films, and was prepared to be terrified, but it delivers as many laughs as it does frights, and TBH there weren’t a huge deal of either – it’s more a thought provoking piece that Peele wrote and directed for his own satisfaction, so kudos to him for that – it just eft me a bit cold. Great performances and cinematography, but a bit too clever for it’s own good.
3 Stars “Huh?!”
