The Kindergarten Teacher – Film Review

Also out this week, a remake of a 2014 Israeli film – The Kindergarten Teacher.

Maggie Gyllenhaal stars as Lisa, a New York kindergarten teacher who becomes obsessed with one of her students, a 5 year old boy named Jimmy who has a gift for poetry.

Desperate to nurture his talent, Lisa neglects her own family as she slowly inserts herself into the boy’s life with increasingly sinister fashion.

Unsatisfied with her own life, Lisa lives vicariously through Jimmy, and becomes consumed as she tries to prevent his rare and fragile talent from being crushed.

4 Stars – “Surreal. Sublime. Superb.”
