Incredibly Chris Rock turned 50 years old this year.

Incredible because he looks so young and still feels fresh. Incredible also because while he views the legendary Eddie Murphy as a role model, Murphy is more of a peer at 54 this year.

I caught up with Rock while he was in Australia to promote the film (see video below) and Murphy was just one of the many topics we covered.

Top Five is a very funny comedy, but it’s also profound it the way it manages to tackle age, race, sex, marriage, relationships, celebrity culture and much more, all the while delivering plenty of laugh out loud moments.

Visually the film is so packed with black faces, it’s a reminder how white the Hollywood mainstream is.

If you’re searching for a “Black Man’s Birdman” – Here it is.

4 Stars.
