Monty Python meets Game of Thrones
The release of this film has been delayed for months with the studio – Universal – concerned that it wasn’t very good. Well they were right.
The story of a witch who I’m pretty sure is called Malcolm played by “Academy Award winner Julianne Moore” channeling Marilyn Manson crossed with Malificent who seeks vengeance on her one time husband Gregory played by “Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges” himself channeling Yoda and Gandalf, this is a film that never lets up on the CGI infested action to let us know much about it’s characters.
Suffice to say Gregory is a Spook – he tames “Dark Creatures” that are supernatural entities that can be bothersome of fatal to humans.
His last apprentice Billy Bradley played by Kit Harrington from Game of Thrones dies at the hands of Malcom (Mother Malkin) in her dragon form at the start of the film & Gregory quickly finds his next apprentice in 7th son of a 7th son Tom Ward played by Ben Barnes from the Chronicles of Narnia.
The rest of the film is a bunch of monsters spooking people. The effects are done well enough, the score and locations are excellent. Other than that it’s like a poor man’s Hobbit.
At least Jeff Bridges – The Dude – is having a good time.
2 Stars.
