Despicable Me 2 – Directed by Pierre CoffinChris Renaud

Release Date – June 20th 2013

In a week that sees an epic battle for the hearts and minds of kids as school holidays arrives again, Disney Pixar’s Monsters University looks great, but I chose Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me 2. This studio behind Hop and The Lorax and obviously the first Despicable Me film looks like it is willing to take risks which makes for a thoroughly entertaining, uplifting, absurd and hilarious film.

As lead voice on the movie Steve Carrell puts it – Gru the main dude in Despicable Me is “just like any other Dad with girls Completely Overwhelmed and out of his league.”

This personal backdrop to the worlds greatest villain, now retired, means that there are two separate and intertwining elements of the film, that generate non stop laughs and plenty of awws as well.

This is one movie that’s good to see the original first, as if you haven’t , and then check this out asap on the big screen to share in the laughs on the big screen before getting a copy for your own library as I know this is one we will watch again and again and again.

5 stars.
