Star Trek Into Darkness – Directed by JJ Abrams

Release Date May 9th 2013

Starring – Chris Pine as James T Kirk and Simon Pegg as Scotty

The follow up to the 2009 Star Trek that saw Eric Bana as  vengeful, time-traveling Romulan this time around pits the crew of the Enterprise against a one man weapon of mass destruction. This is Khan played by Benedict Cumberbatch aka Sherlock Holmes from the UK TV series Sherlock.

This is a familiar foe for fans of Star Trek as the second Star Trek movie back in 1982 was called The Wrath of Khan.

I’m not entirely sure I followed the storyline of Into Darkness  – which made me want to see it again straight away. It’s definitely a film that will reward repeat viewings.

My wife and I were on the edge of our seats and stylistically it is brilliant to see on a big screen.

I’m not sure how hard core Trek fans will feel about this film, there were certainly a lot of laughs whenever elements of the Trek Universe were referenced onscreen.

Most excitingly it is a brilliant entree for director JJ Abrams into the world of Star Wars – he has been confirmed to direct the seventh Star Wars film, with production confirmed to commence in the UK for a 2015 release.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Michael Arndt and is scheduled for a 2015 release.

Michael Arndt is the name behind stories like Brave, Little Miss Sunshine and Oblivion.

Benedict Cumberbatch has had a big year on screen as Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate, and the Dragon Smaug in the 2nd Hobbit film.

Into Darkness is big bright and beautiful to watch. Unlike most CGI in films these days, I actually believed what I saw.

5 Stars. See it today.
